Grim but realistic: Govt
Earlier Method: “Sentinel surveillance” under which pregnant women and high-risk groups visiting govt clinics were tested. Not precise in India where epidemic is low, concentrated. Also, those attending govt clinics were poor, a larger share of those infected.
New: Combines both surveillance and community surveyinvolving blood tests of over 100,000 people and door-to-door surveys.
