Nation's top leaders paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 92nd birth anniversary.

President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were among the first to pay floral tributes to the late leader at her memorial at 'Shakti Sthal'.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was also present at the remembrance ceremony at the memorial, which was decorated with hundreds of flowers on the occasion.

Born on November 19, 1917, Gandhi was the first woman Prime Minister of India. After her father Jawaharlal Nehru's death in 1964, she became a member of Lal Bahadur Shastri's cabinet as Information and Broadcasting Minister. After his sudden demise, she took over as Prime Minister in 1966.

To day to handle the complex situations of the country she is the most required %u201CShakthi%u201D but we do not have her. But we need a %u201CShakthi%u201D like her is the reality. A woman of vision planning administration and control like Indira Gandhi will rarely born to a country. I know %u201CJatasya Maranam druvam%u201D; any birth will definitely have to die, but definitely I am feeling her absence today to save the country which is in trouble. I am not glorifying or personifying Indira Gandhi, but I am failing to see any other person of such qualities and strengths to lead such diverse country and develop. She did contribute to the nation as much as she could. We are remembering her on her 92nd Birth anniversary today and I pray God to rest her soul in peace %u201Cwith out bothering much what are happening in our nation%u201D. Let us hope for some one like INDIRA GANDHI come to lead and save us and our country!
