Individual college forms a big draw as students take no chance

Delhi University colleges had a brisk sale of their separate admission forms on the third day of the sale of forms.

Delhi University colleges had a brisk sale of their separate admission forms on the third day of the sale of forms. Students queued up at the colleges to apply not just through the centralised forms, but also through the individual forms of the colleges of their choice.

Vinay K Srivastava, principal of Hindu College, said,“The forms are being sold at Rs 5 to make it affordable. Students can also buy the form with the prospectus.”

Dr Babli Moitra Saraf, principal of Indraprastha College, said,“Application for multiple subjects should be done through separate forms of the college. It makes categorisation easier.” Courses with entrance exams such as the Bachelor’s of Mass Media and Mass Communications also require individual college forms.

Colleges such as Miranda House and Gargi College, however,do not have individual forms, though their prospectuses are available for sale.

Students applying through the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) or Sports quotas are also required to fill up individual college forms. While the reserved percentage for the quotas can vary from college to college, admission under the sports quota has been centralised from this year.

The ECA quota is the discretion of the respective colleges. While colleges like Miranda House reserve 5 per cent seats for ECA quota applicants, those such as Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) have no reservation for this category at all.

The ECA quota can include various categories such as dance, music, dramatics, debating, quizzing and the fine arts. Students are generally admitted on the basis of certificates and awards, along with their performance in the interview or trial.

Yet another quota available at some colleges is for the wards of the college staff. Miranda House and Ramjas College provide this quota for teaching and non-teaching staff.
