Industrial bodies raise objections against proposed power tariff hike

A delegation of various industrial associations Wednesday held a meeting with Romila Dubey, chairperson of Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission. It was a public hearing against the petition for aggregate revenue requirement and determination tariff filled by the PSPCL for 2013-2014. During the discussion, the associations suggested that there should be no tariff hike and rather they stated that the lower staff working in the department should be given training for modernisation of working so as to make the department more employee efficient. "The department should make a one time settlement with them so as to enable them to clear the arrears," said Gurmeet Singh Kular, President of united cycles parts and manufacturers association.

Badish Jindal, President of Federation of associations of small industries said, "More than 2000 files of industrialists regarding new electricity connections are lying pending in various offices of PSPCL, if they are not to give us connections now, they must pay the interest on the fee deposited by us. Crores of rupees as fee are lying with the department for more than two years now."
