Industrialists to meet PM, hope to seek report on freight corridor

A thirteen member delegation of industrialists will be meeting the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at PAU on Saturday, where the industrialists will remind the Prime Minister of the old projects announced by UPA government, during its first term. They will also seek better infrastructure for the growth of industry.

In a 20 minute meeting, the industrialists want to know the progress on the freight corridor, which the Railways was to build from Amritsar to Mumbai at a total cost of Rs 1,800 crore. The project was announced more than 5 years back, but there is no progress in this project till date.

"We will be asking the PM about the progress of this project," said Gurmeet Singh Kular, president of the United Cycles Parts and Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), who is part of the delegation.

"Though we have met the PM at New Delhi a number of times, but he will be meeting the Ludhiana industrialists for the first time in their home town." The meeting has been arranged by the newly inducted Union Cabinet Minister Manish Tewari.

The industrialists will also discuss the poor air connectivity at Samrala airport which does not provide them with any benefits. The airport only handles a limited number of flights, said Ranjodh Singh from GS Auto group.

The industrialists have put forth a demand before the PM to bring a big project to Punjab. They will also be requesting the CM to intervene in the long pending projects of railways in the state.
