Infant kidnapped from Mahim rescued, man held

A three-month-old girl who was kidnapped from Mahim in the early hours of Saturday was rescued and reunited with her parents the same day. The Mahim police have arrested a history-sheeter for allegedly kidnapping her to take revenge on her parents, with whom he had disagreements in the past.

Police said the victim stays with her parents on a pavement in Mahim.

"Around 3.30 am on Saturday, the victim's mother woke up and realised that the girl was missing. She raised an alarm and rushed to the Mahim police station to register a complaint. In her complaint, she voiced suspicion against Satya Nadar (30), with whom she and her husband had quarelled on Friday. Nadar had been caught trying to steal from the pavement dwellers and had been assaulted," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The police sent a team to Nadar's residence at Vashi Naka in Chembur but he was not at home. A wireless alert was then sent out to all police stations, with descriptions of Nadar as well as the victim.

Around 6 am on Saturday, officials of the Dadar railway police station saw Nadar feeding milk to the victim.

The girl was crying, and the police, on suspicion, asked Nadar who she was. He tried telling them that she was his daughter. However, the police detained him. Nadar later confessed. The railway police then contacted the Mahim police, and handed over both Nadar and the victim to them.

"The victim has been reunited with her parents. According to investigations so far, Nadar did not have any other malafide intentions. He only meant to take revenge from her parents. He is currently in judicial custody, and we will be seeking his custody in some theft cases in which he is a suspect," Kulkarni added.
