Terrorist organisations across the border are bent upon pushing as many militants as they can into Indian territory prior to the state Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, said General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Tiger Division, Major General, D L Chowdhary while addressing mediapersons at Mandal village here on Wednesday, close to the Indo-Pak border.
However, the senior Army officer assured that even though intelligence reports revealed that a large number of militants were waiting to sneak into this side of the border, the security forces in Jammu are prepared to thwart their attempts.
He also pointed out that the terrorists keep changing their infiltration strategies and are always on the look out for loopholes that can facilitate their entry into India.
“When terrorists from across the border find it tough to infiltrate into this side in mountainous areas, they shift their focus to the plain areas of Jammu and attempt to cross over from there. In case the terrorists again find stiff resistance in the plains by security forces, they turn back to the mountainous areas and attempt infiltration from there”. The Army Commander added that their numbers at one location across the border keep changing. However, a high alert is being maintained on the border in the Jammu region, Major Gen Chowdhary said, adding that security forces are keeping a particularly close watch on the infiltration routes used by terrorists and security forces are carrying out regular combing operations in these areas.
Maj Gen Chowdhary elaborated that Army troops are conducting routine search operations in coordination with the Border Security Force — which plays the most pivotal role in maintaining security along the border — and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
