“In a country like India where illiteracy and underprivileged masses loom large,the innovator should strive hard to create services/opportunities which would benefit the society at large and not privileged few,” said Padmabhushan Dr Raghunath Mashelkar while inaugurating the 44 th National Convention of Computer Society of India at Balewadi.
“The real challenge for researchers and innovators is to create ultra low cost,extensive affordability,descriptive and inclusive innovations which would benefit larger section at a very comfortable price without compromising on the quality,” said Mashelkar while delivering a keynote address on “Gandhian Engineering.” He explained the golden fundamental of “Getting more for less for more” with the success of recent innovations done to India vis-a-vis to US counterparts like Tata Nano,Reliance Mobiles and Aravind Eye Care.
Also present were S Mahalingam,president,CSI,and Dr Deepak Shikarpur,chairman,Organising Committee,Dr D B Pathak,Professor,IIT Mumbai,Dr Anand Deshpande CMD Persistent,Rajan Erande,Director,Technology PMC,Dr Trimurthy . S Mahalingam,in his presidential address,said,”IT is playing an important role in the economic growth of India. IT has not only helped country to excel its exports but also acted as a great transformation agent to propel growth which can truly be called as Technology-led Inclusive growth. Hence,we have chosen this subject as our CSI-2009 theme.”
But to ensure the growth to be on the right path,all the players like educational institution and research establishments,users and managers and IT professionals should work closely. CSI is the only body who focuses on creating the right kind if IT professional and contributes to keeping them updated,he added.
Earlier,Dr Deepak Shikarpur,chairman,Organising Committee,informed the gathering about Pune being chosen as a centre for CSI after 31 years in its life of 44 years.
