Inquiry into structures abutting Mukesh Ambani's 'Antilia'

Maharashtra Government will conduct a secretary-level inquiry to ascertain whether there is any unauthorised construction adjoining "Antilia", the multi-storey residence of billionaire tycoon Mukesh Ambani in South Mumbai.

Minister of state for Urban Development, Bhaskar Jadhav, told the Legislative Assembly during the question hour that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had taken possession of the land adjacent to the Antilia building for road widening work and in return handed over the developer the additional Transfer Development Rights (TDR) and Floor Space Index (FSI) which have been utilised fully.

"If there is any authorised construction, it would be demolished," the minister said.

Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse alleged that illegal constructions like protection wall, stairs and parking space had taken place and vehicles were being illegally parked near the 27-storey high rise.

"The construction was legalised after Ambani visited the BMC commissioner after which the land was handed over to Reliance for annual lease of Rs 10.63 lakh," Khadse said.

Replying to the charge, Jadhav said around Rs 2.7 lakh was realised as penalty for unauthorised parking of vehicles.

Khadse said the issue was raised in the civic body as well and even there members had objected to the plot being allowed to be beautified and used by 'Antilia'.

Jadhav assured that the matter would be probed and if there is any irregularity, the construction would be demolished.
