Install 5 more toll booths on each e-way lane in 7 days: High Court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday set a deadline of seven days for the Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL), the concessionaires of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, to install five more booths in each lane for collection of toll tax and ease the flow of traffic on the stretch.

During the resumed hearing of a petition filed by the DGSCL, a division bench said that if the five booths, vertically in each lane, were not installed within a week, then the court will put a stay on collection of toll tax by the concessionaire. At present, there are a total of 42 lanes for collection of toll tax on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

The court also came down heavily on the state authorities and the concessionaire for the chaos on the Expressway and asked as to what action has been taken by the duo to foster a smooth flow of traffic.

M L Sarin, the counsel for the concessionaire, argued that it will be virtually impossible to install five booths on each lane and it will only worsen the situation. He also referred to a report prepared by the experts stating that installation of more booths was not feasible.
