  • Terming the denial of a claim as unjustified, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, today directed ICICI Lombarad General Insurance Company Limited to pay Rs 35,000 to one Vijay Kumar.

Forum president J S Chawla and member Jagjit Kaur Mander also directed the company to pay Rs 5,000 compensation for causing unnecessary tension and harassment to the consumer.

Vijay Kumar, a resident of Railway Colony, Sham Nagar, had purchased a Hero Honda and got it insured from ICICI Lombarad General Insurance Company Limited in July 2005 for a year.

His motorcycle was stolen when it was in the insurance period. After filing an FIR in the Haibowal police station, Vijay lodged a claim with the insurance company and submitted the requisite documents. The insurance company, however, repudiated the claim and closed his case.

The forum directed ICICI Lombard General Insurance to pay Rs 35,000 along with interest at the rate of nine per cent on the claim from the date of repudiation of the claim and also pay Rs 5,000 as compensation on account of mental tension and harassment.
