With Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at loggerheads with her own party parliamentarian,Kabir Suman, the intellectuals have once again come to the forefront to mediate between the warring parties.

A section of intellectuals, including noted writer Mahasweta Devi, have written a letter to Mamata Banerjee to iron out the differences with her MP. “We have sent a letter to Mamata Banerjee on Sunday. We have appealed to both of them to come to a common platform and solve their differences,” said Sunanda Sanyal, educationist, who is among those who wrote the letter. “We have asked Suman not to tender his resignation for the sake of mass movement and democracy. We have also asked Mamata Banerjee to consider the same,” added Sanyal.

Suman had recently sent a text message to Banerjee, party’s chief whip in the Lok sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay and Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Partho Chatterjee, expressing his desire to resign from all party posts and the Lok Sabha. The Jadavpur parliamentarian, however, postponed his resignation after requests from Mahasweta Devi.
