Investigators had given Bagwan clean chit earlier: Kin

The family members of Farukh Bagwan, who has been arrested in connection with the J M Road blasts case along with Munif Memon, have claimed that investigators had questioned Bagwan in the past and had told them that he had "no role to play" in the case.

Bagwan (31), who had a desktop publishing (DTP) shop on Jan Mohammed street in Camp area, is married and has a son. Younger brother Umair Bagwan said: "He went out on Wednesday afternoon. And we later came to know of his arrest. For the last three months, whenever he was called by the investigating agencies like the Delhi Police for questioning, he would tell our parents that he was going out for some work so that they don't worry. On Wednesday also, he did not say anything but we now know that he was held by the ATS. My brother is innocent and we have full faith in the judiciary." ATS said they arrested Bagwan from his Galaxy Building house in Ghorpade Peth.

ATS officers claimed that Bagwan knew Feroze, who was arrested by the Delhi Police earlier in the same case. When asked about Feroze, Umair said: "Yes, my brother knows Feroze. My brother prints visiting cards, handbills etc. Feroze was a customer. And his shop was close by."

Speaking to The Indian Express at their house in Ghorpade Peth, Umair added: "It is really difficult to believe what the ATS is saying. After they arrested Feroze in October, ATS sealed my brother's shop for no reason. And he had no work since then."

Claiming that Bagwan had been "very cooperative with the investigating agencies that questioned him in the last three months", Umaid said: "They even told us that my brother had no role to play in the case. It is really surprising that now ATS suddenly comes up with this story."
