  • Rescue personnel on Saturday retrieved the bodies of three IOC employees from the company’s depot near Jaipur, taking the death toll in the tragedy to eight. Around 150 employees have been injured and the damage to IOC and surrounding establishments has risen to around 500 crore. More than two days after the fire broke out, fire fighters believe four of the 11 fuel containers ablaze are nearly exhausted, while the remaining six containers continue to burn unabated.

With fire control experts stating that the remaining containers could burn for another 12 to 16 hours, the fire brigade geared up to combat the ground fires that could ensue. Meanwhile, Indian Army personnel deployed at the spot finished digging a trench around the depot to ensure that the fire does not spread beyond the IOC premises.

“We retrieved the bodies of three IOC personnel on Saturday and the death toll has increased to eight. Five IOC employees are still listed as missing for now,” Rajasthan Home Secretary Pradeep Sen said.
