  • The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University may introduce the Other Backward Classes quota in a phased manner, starting with nine per cent this academic session.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dilip K Bandyopadhyay, told media persons on Thursday that though no formal orders had been issued, he has been told the Cabinet has passed a resolution to introduce the OBC quota.

“We have not yet received an official direction from the Delhi government but if orders do come, we will implement the quota in a phased manner,” he said.

Bandyopadhyay also released Admission Brochure-V (Super Specialty Medical courses), Admission Brochure-VI (MTech Regular programmes) and Admission Brochure-VII (Weekend courses).

The university is offering eight academic programmes on a weekend basis, including MBA (General), MBA (Consultancy Management), MBA (Banking & Insurance), MBA (Real Estate), MBA (Disaster Management), MTech (Information Technology), MTech (Electronics and Communication Engineering), and a new programme, Master of Journalism and Mass Communication, Bandyopadhyay said.

The university is also considering proposals for the introduction of BSc (Ayurveda, Yoga and Natural Sciences), Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Pathology, and MTech (Tool Engineering) programmes in the near future.

The weekend programme in journalism and mass communication is being introduced under the aegis of the university’s Centre for Media Studies. “The two-year programme will have an intake of 45 seats,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The admission brochures and application forms for the above-mentioned courses can be obtained from selected branches of the Punjab and Sindh Bank. The last date for the sale and submission of the Super Specialty Medical courses is June 8, July 7 for the MTech courses, and July 1 for the weekend courses.
