With the state Governments playing tough on sparing forces for security, the Indian Premier League was on Sunday shifted to another country amid speculation that England or South Africa would be the venue for the second edition of the high-profile event.

The decision to shift the Twenty20 tournament out of the country was taken at the BCCI's emergency Working Committee meeting here to take a final call on the cash-rich event which had run into rough weather because of security apprehensions.

"Because of the attitude of the Government that they are not ready to spare security forces for the cricket tournament... we are forced to take the decision to move the event out of India," BCCI President Shashank Manohar told a press conference.

"So the Board has decided to take the tournament out of the country. We are in discussion with other Boards who are willing to host the event. I apologise to the people of India for moving the tournament out," Manohar said.

We are missing IndiraBy: sidarth | 23-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward If there is any Government in India then they should dissolve the mighty BCCI and put its official in jail on the charge of not selecting player who is representing ICL. This is shame on Indian Democracy that an Born Indian cann't play for their own country.Current Indian players should boycott the IPL,If they sill play then it will be considered as they are playing on for money in their entire international career. BJP should not criticize Government as he is right in their stand for IPL. As BJP is supporting Anti-National Lalit Modi, then confilmly he will lose confidence of Young India.

Why not host the games in one region only in India say South India where security is lot more easier to guarentee and the state governments will be willing to provide thatBy: S.Balakrishnan | 23-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward What happenned to the talk that India is a safe country to play cricket? It is unfortunate that various state governments are unwilling to comeout with security guarentee. But we can stage in a few states say Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Kerala, Karnataka etc. and may miss out the North Indian states. India is so vast that the South Indian peninsula itself can host all the matches without problem. To move outside India and Indian Premier League is preposterous. I am sure the south indian cities are safe and can guarentee the safety of the cricketers and the match. This will give a much needed exposure in cities such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Mysore, Salem, Trichi, Cochin, Trivandrum, Guntur, etc where people will be looking forward to watching international cricket in their local stadium. As a matter of fact it would be nice if the IPL is shifted every year from exclusinvely one region to another and hosting the matches in smaller cities all across that region.
