‘Is Mamata god,are we her disciples?’ asks angry PCAPA

PCAPA Secretary Manoj Mahato has criticised Union Railway Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee for ‘staging a drama’ at Lalgarh and not taking the cause of the people of the tribal belt in West Bengal’s LWE districts to the state Assembly and Parliament.

He also expressed anger with Banerjee for not felicitating the relatives of ‘martyred’ PCAPA founder-members Sidhu Soren and Lalmohan Tudu,as she had originally promised to do.

“We had a lot of expectations from the meeting as it had been declared an ‘apolitical’ one. We were told that the rally would be held to establish peace in Jungalmahal. But the meeting and the Union Minister left us disappointed. In the name of an apolitical meeting, she actually held a political rally. There were no words of assurance for us. Mamata Banerjee did not even recognize us and our movement in the area for the last two years. It was a sheer ‘drama’ organised by the Trinamool,” said Manoj Mahato.

“We do not want alms. We want respect. We had expected Mamata Banerjee to felicitate the relatives of martyrs including Sidhu Soren and Lalmohan Tudu. She did not even take the name of the PCAPA,which had prepared the ground for the Trinamool Congress in Lalgarh. She did not not recognise mass leaders like me and Asit who,for the last one week, had worked day in and day out to make the rally successful,” added Mahato.

He asserted,“We want Constitutional rights. How can she announce standing on a so-called apolitical platform that she would give the people of Jungle Mahal everything. The way she was announcing,it seems that she was throwing alms to beggars. Is she God and are we her disciples?”

Mahato claimed that the PCAPA is not a banned outfit. “The PCAPA is the only mass organization in the Lalgarh-Jhargram tribal belt which has taken an active part in eliminating the CPM cadres from the area. The Trinamool leaders would never have been able to enter the area if the PCAPA had not supported them, said an angry Mahato.

“More than 80 per cent of the crowd at the meeting had been mobilised by the PCAPA. In my area,I spent more than Rs 30,000 for the rally. I mobilised people from the Kalsibhanga,Dherua,Salboni,Madhupur,Goaltore and Lalgarh areas. More than 80 buses were hired by us to ferry people. The villagers marched towards the meeting grounds with our flags. But we did not get any recognition. We were never under any political organisation and now we will never go with this kind of political organisation,” contended Mahato.
