Islamic seminary extends invite to Vice-Prez, CM on golden jubilee

Vice-President Dr Hamid Ansari and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav have been extended invitation by Islamic seminary Jamiat-ul-Falah for attending its golden jubilee celebrations between Novernmber 16-18. Several prominent Islamic religious leaders too have been invited.

Situated in Bilariaganj, around 15 km from Azamgarh, Jamiat-ul-Falah was in news when its two students hailing from Sopore in Kashmir were apprehended by Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police from Kaifiyat Express at Aligarh railway station on May 24. The students, identified as Sajjad Ahmad Butt and Waseem Ahmad Butt, are cousins and were reportedly on their way to Delhi to meet their brother. The J&K police claimed that they were wanted in a terror attack at a police station in Kashmir.

The director of Jamiat-ul-Falah, Tahir Madani at that time had faxed a memorandum to the CM urging him to intervene in the alleged illegal detention of the students. "The incident occurred and our students were arrested. The case is still pending in court. They have not been proved guilty. However, the incident will not cast its shadow on the golden jubilee celebrations of our institute," said Madani.

"We have extended the invitation to Vice-President Dr Hamid Ansari and CM Akhilesh Yadav. Our delegation met Dr Ansari at New Delhi and soon we will meet CM Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow inviting him for the function. We hope to get their consent soon," Madani informed.

Others who have been invited for the 50 years' celebration of the institute include renowned Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik, Rabey Hasan Nadwi, rector of Nadwatul Uloom, Lucknow and president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jalaluddin Umri, president of Jamiat-e-Islami Hind. "All these have given their consent and will also address the function," Madani said.

Several clerics from abroad too have been invited for the function. Madani said that a former imam of Masjid Aqsa in Jerusalem, considered sacred among the Muslim fraternity, has given his consent while efforts are also on to secure consent from an imam of Kaaba in Saudi Arabia. "Many other eminent clerics too are also expected at the event. It will be a grand affair as many alumni of the institute are highly revered in their fields and will attend the event," said Madani.
