IT security experts in demand after rise in cyber thefts

With soaring cyber threats there is a whole new space opening up in corporate sector for security experts. It is estimated that there is a 40-50 per cent rise in demand for IT security professionals in corporate sector.

Amit Nath,country manager,Trend Micro,India and SAARC,one of the leading Internet security firms,said with technology changing every second and the easy Internet accessibility through a range of new and mobile devices,there is a definite need for effective technology and skilled manpower in the corporate sector. The increase in cyber attacks is opening a new space for IT professionals. Like the software or BPO space,IT security space is going to offer a huge job opportunity in India. Not many people are aware about its prospects, he said.

Deepak Kaistha,director and managing partner,Planman HR Pvt Ltd,said there is 50 per cent rise in requirement for IT security professionals. In IT companies everything is based on online. Hence,they are mainly focused on multiple skills of a person who is technically updated and able to tackle security challenges. Demand for competent IT security professionals is increasing, he said.

Most of the banking and financial institutions are aware of their vulnerability and their exposure to cyber crime. They are looking for professionals to strengthen their IT security,added Kaistha.

Rohit Srivastava,ethical hacker and founder president of club hack,said there is a gap between the industry demand and the academia. The demand for IT security professionals has grown tremendously. But education is not in the specialsied field of IT security. Though some colleges have started courses,there should be in-depth courses in cyber security as firms are hiring specialists, he said.

Dhupar,managing director,Symantec India,said data security is an imposing concern for Indian organisations. According to Symantecs survey,61% of respondents perceived malicious insiders as a data loss threat,followed by hackers and organised crime (58%) and insiders (52%).
