ITI: 6 held for stripping,beating fresher

Six students have been arrested. They have been identified as Kushmakar Tripathi,Yogesh,Vinod,Raju,Satish and another accused,who is a juvenile.

The victim told Newsline,“I’d joined the institute on September 1. On the first day,I was asked to stay back after class and ragged. On the second day,I was again stopped by eight to 10 seniors who stripped me and beat me up.”

Police officers said that in his complaint,the boy said his seniors hit him on the genitals with a steel ruler. As he started bleeding,one of them rushed him to Hedgewar Hospital from where he was transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The victim then called up his elder brother,who informed the police. The victim’s brother said,“Senior students first asked my brother for Rs 200. When he refused,they told him to strip and dance naked in the hall. When he objected,they beat him up.”

On Wednesday,the boy’s complaint was not registered. On Thursday,he went to the police station with his family and the police finally lodged a case. The boy told the police that the first day he was ragged,he complained to the vice principal,Prem Kumar. Kumar,however,denied receiving such a complaint. The college would expel students found guilty,he said.
