The easiest way to get trendy this season is to add a belt. A belt has a little bit of magic in it, as it can make a good outfit great by adding extra pizzazz. For the past couple of seasons, the waist has got the maximum attention and has generally moved up. This time around, high-waisted belts get a thumbs-up from fashionistas. Cinched at the waist, these belts can be worn with anything from a dress to a voluminous top.

The high-waisted look is not only flattering to the figure, but also dramatic and chic. By wearing it just below the ribcage, it gives an hourglass look and can be worn plain or embellished. The corset-style and wide-sash-style belts are also rather chic. “The corset belts which are thick and come around the waist like a corset go well with shirts, dresses and long tunics,” says designer Puja Nayyar. If belts are slim, they are not too slim. “Slimmer belts should be combined with leggings or coat dresses,” adds Nayyar.
