It’s all green to me

It was this opportunity,which made him come to India but what thrilled him the most was the Indian crowd. “In India,they know a song and when you play that,they go crazy,” he gushes further adding,“The infectious and addictive hip-hop is all over Asia and so too,in India.”

Although this hip-hop maestro has not heard much of Bollywood music,he has a penchant for Indian classical music. For the official DJ of Shady Records,the technical side of his profession has always been secondary; rather,it is the ‘feel’ as he puts it,that counts. “All that matters is the crowd and what they feel,” smiles he. Born in Rochester,New York the mixer and producer can trace his lineage to Italy but he still is a true American at heart and cannot think of life without rap.

On his association with Eminem,the DJ says,“It was a great experience; I played at a lot of places and it brought me recognition.” The Hustler with an experience of 15 years ‘atleast’ (as emphasized by him) has been a witness to a lot of changes in this field. “During those days,we had to carry heavy cases everywhere,with crates of records weighing 1800 pounds. Today. it’s a device that lets you do away with everything in your backpack,” adds he. But D’Agostino has his share of grievances as well and says,“People who have a laptop and a collection of CDs in their backpack consider themselves to be DJs,but have very limited knowledge.”

When enquired about his moniker Green Lantern,the artist smiles and replies,“When I was trying to pick a name,I wanted it to stand out and so I chose this cartoon character’s name,which was really crazy.” No matter how crazy his name,D’Agostino not only proved his readiness to create his identity in a crowd of DJs but also to chill out on his mixes.
