It’s here

They say those who eat mangoes, always remain happy.

If the summer is here, can mango delights be far behind?

They say those who eat mangoes, always remain happy. Don’t blame yourself if you haven’t heard that one previously for we just made it up! The point is do we really need a reason to indulge in mangoes? If there’s that one thing which makes summer a happy time of the year,it’s got to be mangoes. And with the heat rising, the mangoes are arriving in full stock. “When it comes to seasonal desserts, those with mangoes tops the list,” agrees Sector 33 based catering specialist Kandla Nijhowne who has already started putting the fruit to good use. “Mango souffles are the order of the day though I personally relish a salad that brings in mango cubes, lettuce, raisins, walnuts and lemon tossed in an olive oil dressing,” Kandla lists out a mouth-watering list.

Truly, when it comes to the king of fruits, desserts and cakes take a whole new meaning! Since she uses only fresh mango pulp for her fare,Ashi Banerjee of The Bakehouse is set to roll out mango souffles, mango crepes and of course,an all-time hit – the mango cheesecake. “And there can never be such a thing as too much mango,” quips Ashi. Now,who would disagree with that?

“The best way to enjoy mangoes is to go all natural,” feels Chef Neeraj Chaudhary of Taj Chandigarh who has already rolled in the fruit on the breakfast menu at the hotel already. “While for now you can enjoy the popular version – fresh mango with ice-cream,there’s a mango special headed your way sometime next month,” informs the Executive Chef.

Speaking of mango specials, also planning out a complete mango menu,in addition to what’s already on offer,is the Crepe Station Cafe in Sector 35. “The mango season has arrived in this part of the country and we have worked out a special mango menu that will be dished out starting this Saturday,May 9,” shares Chef Michael Osmond. Here you can look out for mango crepes, mango waffles, smoothies, creams, juices and more. “The crepes and waffles are something everyone should try,” recommends the Chef.

For those who like to be adventurous with food, then here’s an interesting Italian dessert with mangoes for you to try. Available as ‘Iced Rice’ on the menu at the all-Italian restaurant ‘La Dolce Vita’ tucked in Hotel Rio,Sector 43,it brings together a rice pudding with mango! “It’s a sweet Italian dessert like the Indian kheer and now with mangoes freshly available, all the more reason you should try it,” you hear general manager Sourabh Siag tell us.

And looks like Italy does make the most of mangoes for another favourite flavour with the Italian gelato is mangoes. “We also offer the Italian sorbet that is fat-free and a water-based dessert. We are dishing out mango sorbet as summer specials,” informs Nikhil Mittal of Nik Bakers who has also put together mango cheesecakes, mango gateaux and mango pannacotta. “Mango Pannacotta is also an Italian set dessert that is made with milk, sugar and cream, mixed with gelatin. It is best served with fruits or a fruit compote. I have a mango version on offer,” informs Mittal. But if you are looking to bring home a mango dessert without the fuss,do try Mother Diary’s ‘Mango Marvel’ that’s new on the shelves. Bon Appetit!
