It’s IPL’s gain, grins Modi

  • IPL commissioner Lalit Modi couldn’t have asked for anything better. If he has to take stock of the options available to make the inaugural year of the tournament a success, nothing would fetch him more advantage than having the Australians playing for their respective franchise teams. Now, with Australia pulling out of its scheduled tour to Pakistan, the IPL is waiting for the ICC to allow players from both teams to take part in the Twenty20 tournament. “I am very happy. It’ll be great if they (Australian and Pakistani players) can take part. It is good for the IPL,” Modi said. In such a scenario, these players will have to procure NoCs from their respective boards to come and play in India, which Modi says is a “must.” While Pakistan could complain that a financial calamity looms ahead in the wake of the tour getting cancelled, their loss, for the moment, only means IPL’s gain.
