Deccan Chargers will be hoping their senior players show some character.

After a lengthy practice session on Monday, most of the senior members in the Deccan Chargers outfit opted for some light hitting and stretching on the day before their do-or-die encounter against Trinidad & Tobago (T&T). Their opponents on the other hand—buoyed by their upset win against Somerset—sauntered onto the field later in the evening and started off with a game of football before indulging themselves in a laidback session.

While the T&T outfit is full of characters out to have a good time, the Chargers will be hoping their senior players show some character and ensure their home fans have something to cheer about.

Trinidad captain Darren Ganga insists that every player in his team has the license to express himself on the field. And Dave Mohammad — with his extravagant celebrations and crowd-pleasing antics — Dwayne Bravo & Co did that at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Monday, getting the better of Somerset in comprehensive fashion. T&T may have arrived in India as rank outsiders, but they proved with their 44-run victory over Justin Langer’s team that they were not all about fun.

The Chargers had started well enough in their last match, with the batsmen only losing the plot midway through the innings. But bowling was the big issue for Deccan skipper Gilchrist, who ended up using nine bowlers to complete his team’s quota of 20 overs.

“Of course, playing here, we are always under pressure. I think we have disappointed the fans by not winning a single game in Hyderabad. But we are due for a change of luck,” added Styris.

    ... contd.
