Off-colour pacer Irfan Pathan on Monday conceded he hasn't performed well enough to merit selection in the Indian one-day team but vowed to make a comeback, saying he has age on his side. Talking to reporters with elder brother Yusuf by his side at a promotional event here this afternoon, the 24-year-old junior Pathan said, "I have been ignored purely on the basis of my drop in performance and I am working hard towards it." Irfan, however, said it was disappointing to be ignored for next month's Tri-series in Sri Lanka and the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa.

"For the last six years, if I have done slightly bad, I'm getting dropped. But I don't have any excuse. I'm not a person who runs for an excuse. "It's very simple, if I am dropped then something is wrong somewhere. Reason is always performance... Obviously the selectors felt, I'm not up to the mark so I've to work hard and go to that level," Irfan said.

However, the pacer, who made it to the top earlier than his elder brother Yusuf, said he has age by his side. "Not many people have achieved what I've at at the age of 23-24 and I am very happy for that."

However, the ace bowler from Baroda believed that he did not do that badly recently. "If you look at my performance, I finished among the top six bowlers in the Indian Premier League II with 17 wickets and 196 runs (with the bat). In the West Indies series, I just got to play one match and was dropped."

    ... contd.

Why Irfan Pathan,Munaf Patel,Balaji,RP have slowed down their paceBy: Dhoni | 13-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward There is a school of thought that many Indian bowlers Irfan Pathan,Balaji,Munaf,Ishant,RP slowed down their pace quite deliberately in oder to prolong their career. According to some reliable sources Indian Bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad is responsible for this strange phenomenon. This was one of the reasons for BCCI sacking Venkatesh Prasad.(Prasad himself was an expert in bowling the slower ball, but it must be used as a surprise weapon) Indian Fast Bowlers often give excuses like line, length, the Pitch, weather etc when people ask them about the sudden loss of Pace. This is simply not on in International Cricket. All rounder Irfan Pathan & other bowlers need to understand that commitment is required when the play cricket. People like Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble have got so many wickets for India because they didn't change their style of bowling. Irfan Pathan who was bowling at 140 has been messed up with.Irfan will rock both with the bat & ball when he returns
Irfan Pathan should bowl 140 kmph to make a comebackBy: Dhoni | 13-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward Irfan Pathan has done very well against Bengal,Karnataka & Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. His scores in the last 3 matches read 43,28,68,81,3,65* (Irfan Pathan missed out on big hundreds atleast on 3 occasions because he bats at no:7 which is too low) Only big 100s and wickets can earn him a comeback in the Indian Team) Irfan should bat at no:3 or 4 for Baroda if he is serious about playing for India. Irfan should bowl at 140 once again to silence his critics. There is a school of thought that Irfan Pathan slowed down his pace deliberately in order to prolong his career. He should learn from Praveen Kumar who says " I am an all rounder" But Irfan says " I am a bowler who can bat" Irfan should regain his confidence. He should improve his all round ability like Praveen Kumar. Then Irfan can become the next Kapil Dev. If you remove Irfan's performance against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, the stats are very poor. Many Indian bowlers Balaji,Munaf,Ishant,RP slowed down...
Too many distraction Irfan !By: Naim Naqvi | 18-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward You are not performing well because you have got too many distractions Irfan. Wake up before it is too late. Do you know that Salim Durrani and Abbas Ali Beg were once great cricket prodigies of their time; both were handsome, a tad samarter than you. How many of us remember them ? You are too young to go into twilight of the game. Glamour is transitory and takes the heaviest toll. Concentrate on you game and as you are engaged, be loyal to one whom you have decided to make your life-partner. Time and tide wait for none !
