Even as the Centre has moved the process for IT-driven government programme for providing unique identification numbers to citizens of the country, Jammu and Kashmir government has already completed a similar ambitious project for assigning unique computerised codes to over 37,000 Kashmiri migrant families.
Under the project, the first of its kind in the state, the Relief Organisation (migrants) approached IT consultants for creating computerised identification codes for Kashmiri migrant families registered with the Organisation. The computerised database which has been completed and handed over to the state government will help the authorities to fine tune their policies with regard to the displaced community in the changed milieu of the state.
Relief Commissioner (migrants ) Vinod Koul said the ambitious project was undertaken to help the government to implement various welfare schemes for the migrants smoothly, reduce paper work and increase transparency and efficiency in the department.
The code documents all the relevant information such as migrant]s present residence, number of employed persons in the family, total number of family members and their original residence in the Valley.
