  • Iqbal Khanday, IAS officer and one of the accused in the J&K sex abuse case, today filed a revision petition along with a bail application before the state high court seeking transfer of the case to Jammu. The petition comes barely 24 hours before trial into the case is to begin in the district and sessions court, Srinagar.

The CBI has, meanwhile, filed a detailed investigation report before the court this morning. Khanday has sought the transfer of the case, saying he does not have the privilege of hiring a counsel in Srinagar. Pleading for bail, he claimed that his name did not figure in the FIR in 2004, to which he has been made a party now.

The chief judicial magistrate had on July 14 rejected Khanday’s bail saying if the accused was let off at “pre-trail stage”, it would have an adverse effect on the trial. Khanday has now pleaded before the HC that the the lower court’s order be reviewed.
