The J&K government has informed the Supreme Court that a high-level advisory committee, set up to implement a special scheme worth Rs 1,618 crore for Kashmiri migrants, is looking into recruiting migrants for various posts. The 1,618-crore-package for Return and Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants in Valley was approved by the state Cabinet earlier this month.
This was conveyed by the state in its affidavit on Thursday which also spoke about the 54 migrants working as government officers who had approached the SC, seeking a direction to allow them to retain their official accommodation as their houses were destroyed in the insurgency in the Valley. While 31 of these officers are still working, the remaining 23 had to hand over their accommodation after retirement.
The Bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and B S Chauhan said, “ We dispose of the appeal with a pious hope that the state shall take all endeavours to rehabilitate victims of terrorism and till the state is able to rehabilitate and provide the appropriate accommodation to the 31 appellants — retirees/oustees — they shall continue to possess the accommodations.”
