The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department has again accused state minister Taj Mohiuddin of encroaching upon its land in Shopian district. This followed the Omar Abdullah government protesting against a Legislative Council committee probing the matter, finally forcing its dissolution.
In an official communique dated November 9, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests has said that villagers of Sedow in Shopian had occupied large chunks of demarcated forest land over the past two decades, including Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Mohiuddin, and that the amount encroached upon could be determined only after a detailed survey.
The minister has denied the charge, saying that both the State Accountability Commission and the Vigilance Organisation had given him a clean chit.
