Jab Tak Hai Jaan features an unparalleled and formidable combination of stalwarts at work. There's the inimitable Yash Chopra at the helm of affairs, with Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma adding the glamour quotient. Even the music department features a potent concoction of exemplary artistes, with Academy Award recipient AR Rahman providing the music to the lyrics penned by Gulzar, sung by a diverse array of singers.

First in line is Challa, sung by Rabbi Shergil of Bulla ki jana fame. The song garnered criticism for a few reasons, however, talking about the composition, Challa is a pretty good and happy number. The song is in Punjabi, which, accompanied by a fabulous play of guitars and Rabbi's smooth voice makes it a pleasant one to listen to. As Shah Rukh Khan strums the guitar through the streets of London, it reminds you of the romantic hero Khan played in Chopra's 90s hit Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge.

Saans is the quintessential romantic song, the video of which is reminiscent of Chopra's romantic numbers, minus the chiffon saris. Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan's vocals add an amorous allure to the composition. Ghoshal's fluid vocals teamed with her smooth articulation and dramatic light beats in the opening lines is heart-stirring.

In the next track, Ishq Shava, sung by Shilpa Rao and Raghav Mathur, the use of electronic music is avoided, generally found in peppy, foot-tapping numbers like this. Instead, there is a tang of middle-eastern or Arabic style of music coupled with techno and Gulzar's string of words makes you fall in love with the track.

Heer is traditionally somber, with heavy Punjabi lyrics, soulfully sung by Harshdeep Kaur. This wonderfully poetic composition is probably the best in terms of all the elements put together. While Jiya re is the complete opposite, filled with fun and enthusiasm. Neeti Mohan's voice compliments the youthfulness that Anushka Sharma exudes in the video.
