The public memorial of 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson will be held at Staples Centre here on Tuesday, a publicist for the family said.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. (local time) in the arena and 11,000 tickets will be distributed to Jackson's fans for free, Sunshine firm, representatives for the pop star's family said.

Details related to the memorial including how the fans may register for the tickets will be announced at a press conference, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The venue which is owned by AEG Live, the organizers of Jackson's comeback gigs at London's O2 arena, has a seating capacity of 20,000 and is expected to be packed to the full.

Staples centre is also the site of Michael Jackson's last rehearsal for his comeback shows.

Jackson died last Thursday of a suspected cardiac arrest weeks before his much awaited comeback.

Reports suggest that AEG may put up giant screens outside the venue for the thousands who will not be able get inside as the event is expected to attract a massive gathering of pop star's fans.

Meanwhile, Sunshine had asked for the public's patience as the family sorted through details of the service.

"There's a lot of sensitivities, and everyone should respect that," Sunshine said.

Randy Phillips, chief executive of AEG Live, the promoter behind Jackson's 50 concerts that were to take place from July 13 in London, said the ultimate decision about the date and format of a memorial lay with Jackson's mother, Katherine.
