Saurashtra left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and Tamil Nadu’s Laxmipathy Balaji are strong contenders to be picked in the one-day squad that will travel to Sri Lanka for five one-dayers after consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy, sources said on Friday.
The selection committee meets on Sunday to pick a 15-member team for the short trip, during which India will also play a Twenty20 match.
Jadeja’s inclusion could mean curtains for Pragyan Ohja, who played his last international match against Sri Lanka in the dead fifth rubber the last time India travelled there, while Balaji is likely to come in place of Irfan Pathan.
Dhawal Kulkarni remains a dark horse, but the selectors are leaning towards picking him for the Test tour to New Zealand.
Jadeja, Balaji and Kulkarni were ignored when the Board awarded central contracts recently, but according to rules, any non-contracted player representing India automatically gets a Grade D contract.
