Jagdeep’s all-round show helps Moga beat hosts Chandigarh

Riding high on medium-pacer Jagdeep Sandhu's superb spell (5 for 33) and relentless batting (34 no), Moga registered an easy six-wicket win over Chandigarh in a match played during Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament for senior women, at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, on Saturday.

On winning the toss, Moga captain and India star Harmanpreet Kaur decided to field first. Chandigarh women struggled against the precise bowling of Moga medium-pacer Jagdeep Sandhu, as she tore through the hosts' top-order by claiming five wickets. It was Sunaina Saini (23) who showed some resilience and scored runs without any hitch. If not for Kamaldeep's useful unbeaten knock of 29 runs, coming at the eighth number, the Chandigarh team would have struggled to go past the 70-run mark. Jagdeep (5 for 33) emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for Moga. Apart from her, Roshna (2 for 24) and Parveen Khan (2 for 11) also bowled well and provided timely breakthroughs.

The target of 98 runs was not tough to achieve for the Moga team, but the visitors did get a jolt when they were three down for 18 runs.

It was then, Jagdeep Sandhu (34 no) and Parveen Khan (26) who stitched a useful 83-run fourth wicket partnership to enable Moga to win the match in 23.2 overs. In the next match to be played in Chandigarh on Sunday, Moga will take on Patiala.
