Renowned photographer Jagdish Mali,59,passed away in Mumbai on Monday.

Renowned photographer Jagdish Mali,59,passed away in Mumbai on Monday. The end came around 11.30 am due to multiple organ failure. The celebrated artiste and father of actor Antara Mali was admitted to Nanavati Hospital on May 1 following a hip fracture caused by a fall at his Mahim residence.

Mali started his career in the 80s and has worked with Bollywood actors like Shabana Azmi,Kareena Kapoor,Anupam Kher,Om Puri and Irrfan.

However, his most prominent and memorable work was his photo shoots of Rekha. “What set him apart was his creativity with frames. One gets a glimpse of that in his photographs of Rekha. In each frame he has presented a unique side of the veteran actor,” said photographer Subi Samuel.

Shatrughan Sinha, whose portfolio was made by Mali, was so impressed by his skills that he had him click his son Luv Sinha’s portfolio too. In a tribute to Mali,Designer Masaba Gupta,in her tweet, recalled the frames he shot of her mother and actor Nina Gupta.

But over the years, his popularity waned. His contemporaries say that has little to do with his work. “When a new generation of actors come, they work with photographers of their age-group. But that doesn’t imply that seniors’ works are not appreciated,” said actor Manoj Bajpai whose portfolio was clicked by Mali.

The funeral took place at Shivaji Park Crematorium. However, most of the celebrities, except Rani Mukerji’s sister Sharbani, gave it a miss.
