Accusing the ruling DMK of dragging the issue of providing reservation to Muslims for 40 years, Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaat on Monday announced a state-wide ‘jail bharo’ agitation on July 4 to for press their one-point demand of reservation.
The DMK, which first came to power in 1967 promising reservation to Muslims, had failed to fulfill its promise, Jamaat state Secretary M Jaffer Ali said. The DMK, he said, had promised reservation to Muslims even during the last Assembly elections. The recent statement of CM M Karunanidhi that the Government was willing to provide reservation to the community if similar reservation existed in Karnataka and AP, was equal to refusing it, he alleged.
