Keeping the UPA government in the line of fire on Indo-Pak Sharm-el Sheikh joint statement, BJP said on Friday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's praise of Atal Bihari Vajpayee cannot shield him from his "monumental lapse" in reversing India's consistent stand on Pakistan.

Participating in the debate on the working of External Affairs Ministry in the Rajya Sabha, Leader of opposition Arun Jaitley said with "monumental lapse at Sharm-el-Sheikh, Prime Minister has brought India to a position of weakness" from strength, which former Prime Minister Vajpayee had brought to the country while dealing with Pakistan.

Jaitley said Singh has reversed the process set in motion by his predecessor, as highlighted in the January 6, 2004 joint statement, which said terrorism must be prevented to take forward dialogue and Pakistan would not permit its territory to support terrorism.

He said de-linking action on terrorism from composite dialogue "completely destroys the Vajpayee line...praise for him cannot shield Prime Minister from the monumental lapses".

On Wednesday, Prime Minister described Vajpayee as a "statesman" and said he shared his vision and frustration while dealing with Pakistan.

Citing a court language in Urdu, Jaitley, himself a noted lawyer, said "Muddaii ban ke gaye, Mudda alaeha ban ke loutey". Translating, he said India went as a complainant as being victim of terrorism but came back with a "stigma" of Balochistan.

MMS is dubious figure!By: yedaa | 31-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward It is always the congress party which has created problems for the country! Be it the policies of Nehru who has stupidly took the Kashmir issue to the UN, for which the nation is suffering the pressures of international humiliation at the hands of countries like some of the permanent security council members like China. After the conclusive win
at least we find a good opposition, thanks to ambedkar......By: praveen | 31-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward ya rightly said from a position of strength we have come to a position of weakness. still congress does not realise that it should not work keeping BJP in mind, but for the interest of country. sonia gandhi should realise that its not a clear mandate for congress,as we can see there are many states where people didn't find an alternative.i think it may take some time for us to come out of nehru family legacy.at least in this parliament i like the oppsition benches to speak.hope the nation is watching and will select the right people next time.common congress ministers stop minting money(especially in andhra pradesh) and keep the country in mind.
All these discussions do not matterBy: pradeep | 31-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward No matter how we debate here, people are just going to vote for the congress. I am sure that atleast 40% of these commentators, irrespective of what they think about Sharm el-Sheikh will simply vote for congress. God knows why. I guess this Nehru family is a curse to India. Nehru mishandled Kashmir and ensured that India got trashed in the hands of Chinese. Although Indian army won the 1971 war and captured 90,000 pakis, Indra couldn’t end the Kashmir issue once and for all. Sonia made sure that India doesn't buy weapons by scrutinizing all the defense deals that NDA govt initiated. She now made sure that India got to a position of weakness from a position of strength. People still vote for her. We Indians have no self respect and no strategic outlook. Goodness, this country is doomed.
