Jakhar plays down tiff with Bhattal

Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar Tuesday played down differences with his predecessor Rajinder Kaur Bhattal over the allotment of an official accommodation to him. "Neither me nor Bhattal are concerned about it. If she has raised security concerns, the government should take a call on it and provide her security. If she is entitled to government accommodation, she should be given one," he said. Expressing anguish over delay in the matter, he said, "If the government has a problem in finding a house for me, I will surrender my right. The CM and his son are speaking in two voices on the issue." Despite being served a notice way back in March to vacate the premises, Bhattal is still occupying the house allotted to Jakhar.

'Will stage protest if Shinde not sacked'

Chandigarh: Senior Punjab BJP leader and former cabinet minister Balramji Dass Tandon on Tuesday said that if Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was not sacked by the Prime Minister, then he would stage a protest outside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence. Tandon said, "Shinde's comment, in the presence of the PM and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, that training for 'Hindu and Saffron terrorism' was being given by the BJP and RSS is highly condemnable".

BSF seize heroin worth Rs 50 crore

Amritsar: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized 10 packets of contraband, suspected to be heroin, in BOP Chanmulla, Amritsar, on Punjab border, on Tuesday. Each packet weighed around 1 kg, and international value of 10 kg heroin is Rs 50 crore.

Batala police busts gang of robbers

Amritsar: The Batala police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers after they arrested five people on Monday evening. The police recovered three rifles and stolen articles, including two country-made pistols, one laptop, three mobile phones and three motorcycles. Police said they had cracked as many as nine cases of thefts and robberies, and a case of contract killing with the arrests.
