A 22-year-old student from Jammu and Kashmir, who was pursuing his BBA course in Pune, was found dead in his friend’s rented apartment in Kondhwa on Tuesday morning. While no suicide note was found, the police said the cause of his death was not known yet.

Kondhwa police have identified the deceased as Kabeer Rasheed Bhat, who was from Doodipora in Kupwara district. They said Bhat had recently left the flat where he used to stay earlier before he came to stay with his friend in Kondhwa.

“The friend has told us that Bhat was lying on the bed in his flat the previous evening. The friend had asked whether he was asleep or just lying down,to which Bhat had replied ‘haan’. The friend then went out to

study with his classmate. When he came back in the morning,Bhat was asleep. He went out again to get milk, but when he returned around 10 am,Bhat was unconscious,” said Sub-Inspector V S Mane of Kondhwa police station.

The friend then informed the police.

“Bhat was rushed to Sassoon hospital where he was declared dead. His viscera has been preserved for chemical analysis. We had found some pills in the room, which have also been sent for analysis. We cannot comment on the cause of death until we get the reports,” added Mane.

He said Bhat was pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in business administration at a private college in Pune. Sub-Inspector R B Karbhari is investigating the case.

After Bhat’s body was handed over to his uncle,it was flown to Srinagar and was later taken to his native village where his last rites were performed on Wednesday, police said.
