Ruling out his return to the party, expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh today rejected the BJP’s demand that he step down as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee citing that the job transcended political affiliation.

Senior leaders Sushma Swaraj and S S Ahluwalia had visited Jaswant’s residence yesterday, asking him to quit the position as “he had been nominated to the parliamentary panel by the BJP”.

Jaswant said he was not going to oblige the BJP. “I am not. This cannot be a decision that the party can take because the determination of the post and the decision is that of the Lok Sabha Speaker and not of a political party,” he said in the Supreme Court premises.

Jaswant was one of the issues discussed at a meeting of senior leaders Rajnath Singh,Venkaiah Naidu,Arun Jaitley,Sushma Swaraj and Ram Lal today. “Jaswantji should know the fate of the leaders who are expelled from the party,” said Naidu.

Jaswant was emphatic that he had no desire to come back to the BJP. “You don’t have to worry about it. The roads are closed,” he said, when asked if he would return to the party one day.
