After lying low for a decade since it was banned in 2001,the Jaish-e-Muhammad led by Maulana Masood Azhar has resumed public activities like fundraising while Pakistani security agencies appear to be overlooking its resurgence,a media report said Friday.
The JeM,based in Punjab,is in the process of regaining its physical and financial strength that had dissipated after former president Pervez Musharraf banned it,The Express Tribune newspaper quoted Jaish activists and intelligence officials as saying.
The group is working on a plan to reach out to its activists who had abandoned it after authorities cracked down on the group following an attack on the Indian parliament. JeM is trying to consolidate avenues for fundraising, including charity within Pakistan and donations from Gulf countries. As a first step,it has revived Al Rehmat Trust, the JeMs humanitarian wing that was once run by Master Allah Baksh, the father of Jaish founder Masood Azhar, an activist said.
