A Jet Konnect pilot refused to come out of the cockpit after some passengers created a ruckus demanding an explanation from him regarding low air conditioning inside the aircraft. The incident occurred at Kolkatas Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Monday afternoon. The pilot asked for a security teams help to come out of the aircraft as he felt threatened by the agitated passengers.
Security officials said this created a major scare at the airport, and quick reaction teams and other security agencies, including police, had to be rushed towards the aircraft to control the situation.
The Jet Konnect flight (9W 2461) was taxiing on the runway after arriving from Varanasi. After landing at the airport around 3:50 pm,the aircraft was taxiing towards the parking area and was in motion for 20 minutes before it came to a complete halt. Officials said the passengers did not find the cooling inside the aircraft sufficient and asked the cabin crew for help.
Three passengers picked up an argument with the airline officials and demanded a satisfactory explanation by the pilot. They said that despite repeated requests the pilot did not increase the cooling inside the aircraft causing them immense trouble, said a senior security official. The three passengers reportedly continued to argue with the Jet Airways officials after the aircraft halted at Bay number 18. The passengers refused to leave the aircraft and they had to be convinced by the airline manager and other staff to leave the plane. Once they were out they refused to leave the scene and demanded that the pilot come before them and seek an apology, said the official.
As there was no official complaint from either the passengers or the pilot the matter was settled. The police was informed but no legal action was taken, said the official.
Despite repeated attempts,Jet Airways officials did not respond to queries regarding the incident.
