Jindal group told to inform govt about its Salboni project status

The state government has asked the Jindal group to make an assessment of the progress in its upcoming Salboni steel plant project in West Midnapore district.

The state government has asked the Jindal group to make an assessment of the progress in its upcoming Salboni steel plant project in West Midnapore district. A delegation of the group will be making a presentation of its assessment to Minister for commerce and Industries Partha Chatterjee on Friday. The private firm will also tell the minister the amount of work which has been completed at the site.

The group is setting up a 10 million tonne per annum capacity mega steel plant on 4,800 acres of land with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. “We have asked the company to come to us and tell us what they have done so far. As far as we know 80 per cent of the preliminary work remains to be done,” said Partha Chatterjee in Kolkata on Wednesday. Among other things,the company has constructed a boundary wall as along as 36 kms.

“The government will not allow any land,allocated for setting up industry,to remain unutilised for long,” Chatterjee added.

He also wanted to know how the project would fulfill the expectations of the people in the state. The company has acquired 4314 acre and 138 acre has been handed over for the purpose of social forestry.

At the initial stage,the company was to begin with production of three million tonne per annum. The project included mineral ore linkage and a power plant.
