Even as a high-level CBI team arrived here today to investigate the Srinagar sex racket, allegedly involving politicians and top police and security officers, the BSF has launched an internal inquiry to probe reported involvement of some of its officers.

Sources said a senior official from Delhi will monitor the internal probe being conducted by an additional Deputy Inspector General of BSF in Kashmir. Sources reveal that the probe was ordered after the name of a Deputy Inspector General of BSF and others came up in the investigation report on the scandal filed by a Sub Divisional Police Officer exposing the involvement of politicians, security force personnel and police officers.

Sources said that BSF officials in Srinagar were shocked when the nameplate of a BSF official A H Shagoo and a rank-plate bearing a single star of a BSF official were recovered from the house of the alleged kingpin of the racket, Sabina, when a mob stormed it last Friday.

Soon after the internal probe was initiated, a team of BSF sleuths had also tried to question the 15-year-old victim as well as Sabina, both in the police custody, to ascertain whether its officials were involved. The victim and her family are in preventive custody of the police after she complained of threat to her life. The police didn’t allow the BSF sleuths to question the two. The BSF intelligence wing (G-Branch), sources said, has been asked to gather information from its local contacts to find details about any involvement of its officials operating in the city.
