JKLF chief,Hurriyat leader detained

The duo were taken to Maisuma police station while their 300 supporters were chased away by police.

JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and senior Hurriyat Conference leader Bilal Gani Lone were on Friday detained as they tried to stage a protest rally in Maisuma area of the city against alleged rampant arrests of youths in the Valley.

Malik and Lone were taken into preventive custody as there was apprehension of breach of peace in the area due to their unauthorised protest march,a senior police official said.

He said Malik had not sought prior permission from the District Magistrate Srinagar for holding the rally as section 144 CrPC (banning assembly of persons) was in force in the city.

The JKLF chief had planned a “torch rally” against the spree of arrests of youth allegedly involved in stone pelting incidents during last year’s summer agitation.

Lone had extended support to Malik’s programme.

The duo were taken to Maisuma police station while their 300 supporters were chased away by police.
