JNU increases student intake capacity,starts 10 new courses

Rs 214.18 cr was allocated to JNU for implementation of OBC in admission: Sibal

The annual intake of students in Jawaharal Nehru University (JNU) has increased from 4,262 to 6,665 after the introduction of 10 new academic programs,the government said on Friday.

Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha on progress made by JNU,HRD Minister Kapil said,“During 10th and 11th plan period,10 new academic programs were introduced. The student strength has also risen from 4,262 to 6,665″

The research output has increased by 40 per cent in form of publications and patents and the number of foreign collaborations has increased from 34 to 117,he said.

On grant of funds,Sibal said,“Rs 214.18 crore was allocated to JNU for implementation of OBC reservation in admission.”

Replying to another question,Sibal said,“The National Curriculum Framework (NCF)- 2205 emphasises reduction of curriculum load. It recommends that syllabi should be illustrative and not exhaustive in orientation and content.”

Based on NCF guiding principles and recommendations of National Focus Group on Teaching of Social Sciences,NCERT has developed History syllabus that “provides ample scope for students to expand their knowledge with the help of teachers on any theme by way of different learning enrichment activities.”
