Gujarat IGP Geetha Johri today set up camp in Hyderabad. She is here to find out if any Andhra Pradesh police officers were involved in the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife, and to possibly recreate the crime. She will question Hyderabad police officers who allegedly assisted SP Rajkumar Pandian to kidnap the victims.
Johri may also question a senior Gujarat cadre official who Pandian met when in Hyderabad. Speaking to the media on her arrival, Johri said: “I don’t have any specific names, I have just come here for some clarifications,” referring to the possible involvement of local police personnel in the episode. Johri, who is staying in the same IPS officer’s mess that Pandian put up in, also met Andhra Pradesh DGP M A Basith. Basith had recently denied that any of his men were “officially” involved in the fake encounter case.
The officers of the Andhra police had allegedly helped Pandian’s team to track Sohrabuddin’s movements.
Johri may visit Tandola, where the bus carrying Sohrabuddin and his wife was stopped by police.
For now, her movements are shrouded in secrecy. However, this is not the first time Johri is visiting the city. She had visited the city last year in connection with the case.
