A day after it announced the opposite,Jammu University on Tuesday allowed the chiefs of the BJP and RSS Rajnath Singh, and Mohan Rao Bhagwat respectively to address a function at its auditorium, which it had earlier decided would not be used for any political purpose.
The decision came at the last moment after the organisers of the seminar,Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, prevailed upon the varsity. Both Rajnath Singh and Mohan Rao Bhagwat spoke this afternoon during the convention on national security, integration and the legacy of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh,on his death anniversary.
However, the first part of the function, which Jammu University had said was only academic in nature turned into a critique of the Congress party and National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
Besides the leadership of the BJP,the function was attended mostly by those who were part of last years agitation for transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). Spokesman of the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS),Narinder Singh, said,Special status of Jammu and Kashmir foments separatism… it was due to the radical thinking of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who launched the quit Kashmir movement in 1946 that Jammu and Kashmir is still facing problems, said Singh.
