Judge bribery case: Court asks SC to provide papers on prosecution nod

A special CBI court, on Saturday, sent a reminder to the Registrar of the Supreme Court to provide it with relevant records on the basis of which sanction to prosecute retired Justice Nirmal Yadav was granted by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) in the infamous judge bribery case.

The court informed the counsel for accused that the Union Ministry of Law and Order has already provided it with the said documents. Also, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced the original documents to the court in a sealed cover. However, CBI requested the court to grant them a time period of ten days as they wanted to get the photocopies of the documents for their record for which the court granted them the permission.

The counsel for the accused requested the court to provide them with photocopies of the documents which have been provided by CBI and the Ministry of Law and Order in the court. But, the Central Bureau of Investigation counsel raised an objection on providing the photocopies, hence, the court granted the permission to the defence counsel to inspect the documents as many times as they want in the court.

Also, the court gave the liberty to CBI to inspect the documents provided by the Ministry of Law and Order. The case has been adjourned to January 12 for awaiting the records from the registrar of SC and to begin the arguments for framing of charges.
