Son of an Additional Sessions Judge in Punjab along with three others has been arrested on various charges, including endangering life of others and kidnapping or abducting with the intention to wrongfully confine a person.
Karam Singh, who according to Mansa police is the son of Muktsar Additional Sessions Judge Baldev Singh, and his three accomplices allegedly thrashed as many as eight labourers on Wednesday night at a rice mill on Ratia Road in Boha in Mansa district.
Allegedly in a drunken state, Karam Singh, along with Gurvir Singh, Amit Kumar and Honey Kumar came to Boha Grain market about 11:30 pm and picked labourers in a Safari with read beacon atop and took them to the rice mill that they had taken on contract for rice shelling.
Three labourers had to be hospitalised after they suffered serious injuries following the thrashing, said Mansa SSP H S Mann, adding that further investigations were on.
On the provocation for the incident, Boha SHO Amarjit Singh said, “Who knows on what issue a drunken man may take a stand?”
Undergoing treatment in a hospital, Tota Singh, on whose complaint the case was registered, said the accused — “one of them brandishing a revolver” — forced them into the Safari, saying it was a police vehicle and they (victims) needed to be taken to the police station as they (victims) were indulging in hooliganism. “Instead, we were taken to Jai Jagdambe Rice Mill, where they started beating us with sticks and asked us to work for them there. They also fired three shots in the air,” he added.
